Advent Calendar: Day 4

Look at me in my organisation, scheduling this blog! Not that you'd have known, if I hadn't told you.

Today is my son's 7th birthday! I'm going to be very busy as he's got a party in the afternoon, too, so thought it wise to schedule this - plus you always open your calendar first thing in the morning, after breakfast. Well, we do in this household.

For Day 4, I thought of Robbie Williams, then I thought, let's see if I can find a photo of him and Nicole from their Somethin' Stupid video, as it's Christmassy. Then I thought, why don't I just post the video.

4th December

I loved this song, sung originally by Sinatra and (I think) his daughter, Nancy. (Too lazy to google - sorry). I was so happy when I saw it on Robbie's Swing When You're Winning album, which is actually one of my favourites of his, behind Escapology. (I used to volunteer at the hospital (Sunshine) radio and this album was great to use in my play lists).

Oh, and here's a couple of the pictures I did find first. Romantic and Christmassy.

Advent Calendar: Day 3

Oh, today it is my sister's birthday, and she turns 24. Happy birthday, Katie!

I got the inspiration for day 3 by viewing Lucy Monroe's blog interviewing Liz Fielding. She talks of The King's Speech - which I haven't seen, (it's on my list to watch) but gave me inspiration to post my next favourite actor and character... Colin Firth aka Mark Darcy. (Who knows later, even Mr Darcy may appear.)

3rd December

Oh, and this is Christmassy, as it's at the end of the film, and it's snowing.

Book Review: Wedding Bells For The Village Nurse by Abigail Gordon

Wedding Bells for the Village Nurse (Medical Romance HB)Wedding Bells for the Village Nurse by Abigail Gordon

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I'm afraid this was the hardest book I've read all year. And it's a shame because it's my first ever medical Mills and Boon read. I picked it up thinking I usually devour Mills and Boons books in two to three days - not with this one!

I loved the setting, it being in Devon, but most of the time this book was very telling and not very showing. I never actually saw the relationship between the two developing, I was just being told about it. Therefore I found myself not caring.

I did finish it though. I know some would have said, put it down, start another book, but I thought it was only 183 pages, and I wanted to read a medical romance!

The general plot was a good idea, I just don't feel it was executed as well as it could have been. And I can't believe two people can go out for an evening meal, then go surfing at night - in the middle of winter!

I've been in Devon's waters. They're bloody cold in August!

Thankfully, I didn't buy this book. It was out of my RNA conference pack. I've given it two stars, because I'm not sure I can be so mean to give one. If you're happy to be told the story, with point of view changes within the same scenes, and there seemed to be an omniscient point of view at times, then this is maybe the book for you.

Advent Calendar: Day 2

Am I going to have enough men for 24 days? I might need some suggestions ...

Anyway, thought I'd do this very quickly before I head off to work. I'm doing some overtime for my sins. Could have done with a day trying to catch up with some writing, as the past few days I've done nothing. How will I ever get The Wedding Favour finished and submitted to publishers? I really want to do it next year as early as possible!

2nd December

Richard Armitage, as John Thornton in North and South - a fantastic brooding hero! I thought this looked rather Christmassy, though it is cotton, not snow, in the picture.

Advent Calendar: Day 1

I do apologise, because I've only just come up with this idea for posting up until Christmas, turning my blog into an advent calendar. I am likely to use some old pictures, but they are so good, I am sure none of you will complain.

It's my son's birthday Sunday, so trying to bake him a cake, and I'm baking cakes for the school fair which is on Saturday. This week has been manic and I've got little writing done. Tonight is my writing group meeting too. Plus I signed myself up for overtime tomorrow during the day - yes while the kids are at school! Am I mad? I'll be doing 7 hours all in all, including my 3 hours I usually do - a full days work! Valuable writing time being eaten up going to WORK! Boo! But sadly, I need the money...

Anyway, next week, once the stress of this weekend is over, I'll try and get a bit more organised, and find some new fun, Christmassy pictures.  (I still haven't forgotten I need to do a post about my award too - so you may get double bubble one day).

I will start with this one... The angel for the top of tree. (I have just used it on Facebook and this is what gave me the idea, so only fitting he should start off my Advent Calendar).
