Recluse Millionaire, Reluctant Bride – Extract 4
Chapter 1

# # #
"You’re not a prisoner here, Ms. Ryan," he said, tone cool.  "You’re an invited guest with whom I wish to discuss business.”
"Why didn't you call or e-mail or drop by my studio to discuss your... er...business?”
          “In a sense, I did.”
          “Stop talking in riddles.”
          He shrugged.
And that had her hackles rising.
"This charade is utter nonsense.”  She moved another few steps closer, the table a barrier between them.  “I don’t like being manhandled."
The deep sound of his laughter ricocheted off the walls.  "Heard it was the other way around."  He saluted her with his drink.
Stella shook her head, pointing her finger at him.  "Look here, I have   a business to run.  Right now, my students are at the dojo waiting for me.”
Stan set the empty glass on the gleaming countertop and rubbed his palms together.  "Took care of it.”
"I demand to be relea—” She gaped at him.  “What does that mean?" she
demanded.  "You know you could be arrested.”
          "My men—”
          “Thugs.”
“—left a memo at your studio explaining your absence."
          "Disappearance."
He shuttered his eyes to blue slits, considering her veiled warning.  "Ms. Ryan, I’m offering you my hospitality as my guest.”
“I’m not your guest.”  She tossed her head.  “And don’t need nor want anything from you.”
He hiked a brow, and she swallowed a lump in her throat.  Of course, he had control of her core asset and—
          "You’re on a publicity tour…Tokyo, Toronto…family demands,” he
explained, his words saturated with meaning.  “You’d be returning soon.”
“You dared to—” A tremor vibrated from her head to her toes, shivers
prancing on her spine.
He shrugged.  "A risk worth taking."
Stella paled, their one and only meeting zooming to the forefront of her mind.
"Something wrong, Ms. Ryan?"  Casually, he slid his hands in his pockets,
confident he’d cornered her.
Stella groped for the back of a chair, the wood smooth and hard beneath her fingertips.
Like the man—unbreakable.
"Do you often take such risks?" she tested, her voice brittle.
          "Occasion—"
"Why?"
          "High stakes."
"How lofty are they this time?"  She tightened her grip on the chair, her heart pounding a warning.
"Riskiest bet of my life," he admitted.
She wouldn’t be bridled.  “Must be, to ditch your life of the rich and
famous for that of a recluse.”
He laughed, a dark, ominous sound.  “It is.”  A shadow swept across
his eyes, and a nerve pinched his jaw.  He shrugged and didn’t elaborate.
Tenderness pierced through her frustration.  She must be mistaken, or nuts.  Nuts to feel anything but contempt for the ogre.  She shoved the pinch of feeling away.  She didn't care, couldn't care, refused to care.
"I don't play cat and mouse games, Mr. R."
          "You do remember."
The gray at his temples and his beard had thrown her at first.  His
electrifying blues and commanding tone, capped off with his baiting remarks, cued her a second time in as many hours, how well he knew the game of finance and how well he wielded the rules for his benefit.  Yes, she remembered him.  He was not a man she could easily forget or how ruthless he could be.
"How do I fit into your scheme of things this time?" Stella asked, her voice crackling with ice.
          "Predominantly."

Excerpt: Greek Millionaire, Unruly Wife

Chapter 1

“I’ll take that one.”

“The green gown, Monsieur Leonadis?”

“No, the model.”

The man chuckled. “The model’s not for sale, monsieur.”

“You wanna bet?” Michalis Leonadis loosened his tie, lifted an arrogant eyebrow at the sales manager of the Haute Couture show in Paris, and geared up for battle...not with the manager but...with her. Tracking the model every step with his slitted gaze, he slipped a hand inside the pocket of his jacket and extracted a card, then a pen.

Julia, strutting down the runway and steaming up the ballroom in the Hôtel de Crillon had cost him a marriage, and a billion dollars in a Tokyo deal gone belly-up. As if that hadn’t been enough, his head of security informed him she’d recently given—

Applause broke out, splintering his thoughts, and spiking his fury...his passion. For revenge.

She’d ripped his heart out. Shredded his pride. Cost him.

Her untimely exit had rocked his sphere and his bank account. She nearly bankrupted him. He’d put everything on hold to search for her, and to clean up the legal mess his uncle’s amour had created when she’d charmed... er... scammed the old guy into signing half the Leonadis fortune to her and ultimately her heir. The fortune Michalis had slaved over years to amass.

He set his jaw, batted that distraction from his mind, and turned his laser sharp eyes back to the supermodel, his present dilemma.

When he found out Julia had been living it up in Paris, he’d shut her out, and scrambled to salvage his business and stay afloat— he’d waste no more time on her. He was better off without her.

A spike lodged in his aorta, but he ignored the sting.

He clamped his teeth, his breath rumbling in his chest and escaping through his nose in a hostile sound. How dare she keep that a secret from him?

Cold, calculating bi—the expletive stinging his tongue was smothered by shouts of “Brava!” from the audience.

He scrawled a message on his business card, adrenaline pumping him to action.

She’d definitely pay. He curled his lip. His way.

Michalis slapped the card in the man’s hand. “Make sure she gets it.”

The man glanced at the bold insignia of the Leonadis Cruise Line on the card and inclined his head. “Oui, Monsieur Leonadis.”

Michalis tuned him out.
He liked things simple. She’d been anything but.

Advent Calendar Day 13 #SunChara

Behind door 13 is Sun Chara. Welcome, Sun!

CHRISTMAS CARDS – How did the custom begin?

I’ve always been interested in learning how different cultures celebrate Christmas, and then I realized that exchanging Christmas cards is a global tradition. But how did it all start?

It all began in 1843 when a gentleman by the name of Henry Cole, the director of London ’s famous Victoria and Albert Museum was too busy to write notes and have them delivered. He asked an artist to create a card for him with a message inside that he could simply sign. A thousand copies were made, and voila! The first Christmas card came into being.

Over the years, Christmas card sending became so popular that by 1870 it had turned into a worldwide custom. Fast forward about 145 years to 2015 and, although some people still send Christmas cards the traditional way, postage costs and technology has altered the practice so that now, most people send Season Greetings electronically and often with jingles!

No matter how you choose to send your Holiday cards, know that the joyous sound of your Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! greeting is heard around the world!

EXCERPT: All Wrapped Up in You

CHAPTER ONE

“Ninety-nine cents.” Ellie stood outside the Burbank Media Mall showcasing a Christmas broach in her gloved hand to shoppers rushing by. She kept a smile plastered on her face, offsetting desperation rising in her throat, and wiggled her foot, adjusting the cardboard patch over the hole in her boot.

It had been three weeks since she ditched Prince Charming and the ‘castle’. Had she made the right decision?

She replaced the broach in the basket, and scooped up the coins on the bottom. Two sales on Christmas Eve, not a good sign.

The Santa Ana winds sliced through her thin coat, numbing her flesh; a gust swayed the Palm trees lining the boulevard. She pulled the pink cap lower over her ears, glad she’d also worn the matching scarf.

“A dollar ninety-nine.” Ellie counted the money in her palm and a tremor shot through her. What could she buy with the pennies in her hand? She rifled through the pockets of her coat to ensure she hadn’t missed any coins. Nope, she hadn’t.

She leaned against the street lamppost and heaved a breath. Air frosted her lips. Her heart thudded, and she fisted her fingers, the coins grating in her palm. “I can’t return to the castle…and to him.”

But she had to get home…a laugh bubbled inside her, and she bashed it down before it erupted from her in a hysterical sound that’d have people gaping at her. She dropped the coins in her purse, and with her head slightly bent against the wind; she made her way to the bus stop, but stalled in step when a Porsche pulled up along side of her.

“Get in,” the driver commanded, his voice sending shimmers of awareness through her. “You’ll freeze waiting for the bus.”

“No.”

“Ellie, don’t be obstinate,” he said, a ripple of impatience in his voice. “I’ll give you a lift home.”

An eerie silence ensued in the lull in the wind, and the melody sailed to her from the car radio. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la…’

She nearly snorted at the lyrics. Jolly… Huh!

Peter Medeci, M.D. The highly sought after neurosurgeon, the man of her dreams. The man that had given her everything except the one thing she wanted most…and that’s why she skipped out on him. To get close to him again would be self-destructive, but even as she reasoned, her body hummed with yearning.

“I’ll make my own way.” But as soon as the words were out of her mouth, she cringed; she didn’t even have enough for bus fare for the ten-mile ride to her North Hollywood mouse-hole.

“You will not.” She heard the car door open, and paused in step. “Get in before you make a scene.”
